eco•batik closing soon........

I arrived in my hometown of Milwaukee in April, 2010 after living in Portland, Oregon for 15 years.  My BFF, Michelle and her very kind husband Todd, were gracious in letting me stay at their house in Bay View, (around the corner from my shop) while I got my bearings.  I had not even considered having a retail shop until I found the space that would become eco•batik.  I knew I could work in the back of the shop and have a little retail in the front selling my cards, lampshades and other goodies. The shop has been the perfect way to reintroduce myself and my work to Milwaukee and to make new friends.  My favorite part of having the shop has been meeting new people and being a part of the Bay View Community. 

As the shop and batik work started to take up more and more of my time, I focused less on my greeting card business which has been a very good business for me for 13 years.  With so much going on I have found that my design time has been shrinking and my administrative time substantially increasing.  By closing the shop and working from home not only will I have more design time to illustrate and develop Urban Bird, I will also have much less overhead. The timing is perfect as my lease is ending and I am moving into a new house.

Thank you to my family, friends and customers for your support!  Making a living as an artist isn't the easiest path to take but it is easier when you feel loved and supported.  Please accept my most sincere appreciation for your confidence in me.  I hope you will all continue to support creative commerce.

I'm not gone yet!!!!  The closing sale at eco•batik starts now!!  Everything is starting at 20% off (with a few exceptions)  This is the time to stock up on the original Urban Bird greeting cards and to get first pick of the new greeted line of cards, Urban Bird Greetings.  There will be an eco•batik closing party and MOSS Floral Design opening party, Saturday, March 3rd so save the date!

Sketches for eco•batik lampshades and pillows

Here you can see how I develop a new design.  It usually starts with a rough doodle and then I refine the sketch down a crisp black and white drawing that can be scanned in and turned into a vector image.  The vector image can then be sized up or down or colors can be changed, patterns can be repeated. I use graphic designers for all of that. I like my pencil and paper!

THE SKy COLLECTON @ HOME pillows at eco•batik

eco • batik is excited to introduce THE SKy COLLECTION @ HOME pillows!  They are made of upholstery weight, cotton twill and measure 16" x 16".  It was an interesting process having my original drawings digitally converted for the printing process.  Whenever you are having your artwork reproduced in another medium like a print, greeting card or fabric, you never quite know how it will turn out or if colors will match your expectations.   I love how they turned out!  To me they look and feel like my favorite t-shirt that I always feel good in and love to put on!  I look forward to bringing more designs to life through textiles!

Jen's Horse Hair Lampshade

My bestest friend since 8th grade, the uber-talented, Jenifer Doust, asked me to make this little bitty shade for her living room.......I've finally finished it Jen and Happy Birthday!

I'm in the process of waxing and dying this shade for a client. This is the first lamp shade pattern that I made called FIRST IMPRESSION.  It will be very pretty in greens and teal!
